There are so many different free platforms to document your Journey! I personally use WordPress – the free version, that I’ve downloaded to my website, and write on it every day! I’m old-school and like to write on my Macbook Air, but you can use a phone, tablet, or desktop – whatever you like!

There is nothing I love more than to hit that Publish button when I know I’m finished writing. Once all my thoughts are on the screen, and I’ve polished the post with current SEO, added images, and selected the perfect category to file the post into, I send it out onto the world wide web and see who resonates with my writing.

One of my previous careers was in Real Estate, a very saturated business, but one that can make you very rich if you have the hustle. When I was just starting I was talking to my broker, an experienced agent named Buddy. I confided in him that I was nervous I’d be just like any other agent and nothing would differentiate me from everybody else. He told me to be myself and just help others. Nobody else was like me, and while I probably wouldn’t make everyone happy, I would connect and resonate with some people, and that would be my tribe and audience – just like you!
8. Create an Online Portfolio: Showcase your work and projects.
Nobody is going to promote you like you! It can be scary to blog and put your stuff out there. But let me tell you a secret – when you are just starting, nobody is reading your stuff. I love this 5 min TED talk video about how to start a movement – Begin by just doing your thing, and then watch what happens! I actually started blogging more than 15 years ago when this video came out. I only wish I had kept blogging continuously since then!
9. Network with Influencers: Meet and collaborate with other bloggers and industry experts. Did you just watch that video? If you did, you know the message is not to be a leader, but actually to be the first follower! That makes you the most important person, even more important than the leader! Because you had the strength to do what nobody else would do!
10. Earn Money: Monetize your blog through ads, sponsorships, and products.

I’ll bet there is something you know more about than most people. Remember when I was talking about community in #7 above? Helping others is a great way to share what you know, to a community of people like you, and become an expert!

There are so manythings you can write about, from day to day operations, to more information about a product or service, to announcing plans to grow, and much more! Owner blogs are unique because they give insight in a way that workers can’t provide, and that’s what people want to see and learn about!

The very first thing I ever got for free was from blogging was a Wagner Power Painter. I was running a blog about home improvement that we were doing for our first house, and one day this box just showed up on my front porch with a note thanking me for my content and asking for a review.

I’ll be honest, I’m getting older and looking forward to retirement, especially seeing the country during retirement in an Airstream Trailer. Once you have a following, and are considered an expert, then brands will come to you – and in my case I’m working towards attracting Travel brands specifically!

Personally, I find that writing everyday helps me in ways that I could have never imagined. Sitting down, for 1-2 hours everyday with no distractions allows me to reflect about the things that are important to me, and by writing them down (typing on a keyboard), I can clarify and refine these goals into actionable items.
